FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Most of the answers you are looking for can be found on our website especially here on this page

  • Is there a minimum age and weight requirement?
You must be at 14 years of age and up or weigh at least 100 lbs. to be able to ride a Segway.
  • Where are you located?
We are located at 199 State Street in Downtown Boston, close to the Faneuil Hall and The New England Aquarium. Be careful when using any Maps app. Enter our address instead of the business name for the most accurate directions.
  • Where can I park?
There is no on-site parking at our location. However, there is pay-parking either by meters on the surrounding streets or in parking garages close by. The closest parking is 200 State Street Garage just across the street from us. The entrance to this garage is on Surface Road. If you decide to take the T, use the Blue Line to the Aquarium T Stop.
  • Is there a restroom available on the premise?
Believe it or not, our business location is in a very old building that has never had a bathroom installed. We know this is an inconvenience and would like to apologize in advance. We highly encourage you to use the public bathrooms in surrounding places like Faneuil Hall and Marriott Long Wharf before starting your tour.
  • Is there a weight limit?
Yes, the Segway Handbook states that riders must weigh between 100 - 300 lbs. to ride a Segway. Otherwise, it could be unsafe or cause damage to the Segway.
  • Can my child ride on the Segway with me?
Unfortunately, no. A Segway is not designed for multiple riders. It is totally unsafe for two people to ride on one Segway especially if one of the riders is a small child.
  • What about the weather?
We glide rain or shine! Unless the state declares a State of Emergency in the County - specifically in Boston - then we ride! Since this our 9th year running Segway tours in Boston, something we would like to mention is that we've had to watch the weather very closely. One thing we know is that the weather predictions in Boston, being so close to the coast, are wrong more often than they are right. Especially if the chance of precipitation is 50% or less. "Thunderstorms" are mostly unpredictable. Meaning, they are almost always wrong about the timing of a thunderstorm. We have been down this road a thousand times and what we always see happen (unless it's something like 85% chance of showers all day) is that the time they predict rain will fall usually gets pushed back 2-3 hours in the last 24 hours of the expected thunderstorm. Sometimes the rain just disappears from the forecast completely in the final hours leading up to a specific time. We have also seen countless times where the weather prediction is completely wrong and it won't rain at all. With that said, please take this into consideration before reaching out to us about your reservation. We strongly encourage you to take a deeper dive into the information on the weather. Do not blindly trust the "daily" forecast. Take a few extra seconds to look at the "hourly" forecast surrounding your tour time. And most importantly, check what the radar shows you, as that is the most accurate piece of information available showing the actual precipitation, where it's heading, and when.
  • What if I need to cancel my reservation?
Please bear in mind that all sales are final and we cannot accommodate cancellations. Our entire day-to-day operation, including how we schedule our tour guides, are based around the reservations we are holding. Below is our policy which is also displayed on the booking page of our website. THIS PURCHASE IS NON-REFUNDABLE. YOU ARE PURCHASING A TICKET, RESERVING YOUR SPOT, FOR A SPECIFIC DATE AND TIME OUT OF A LIMITED NUMBER OF SEGWAYS THAT ARE AVAILABLE FOR USE AT THAT SPECIFIC DATE AND TIME. ONCE YOU MAKE A RESERVATION, WE ARE HOLDING ASIDE THE USE OF OUR LIMITED NUMBER OF SEGWAYS AT THE SPECIFIC DATE AND TIME REQUESTED THAT WE COULD OTHERWISE SELL TO SOMEONE ELSE. FOR THESE REASONS, ALL SALES ARE FINAL. TICKETS ARE NON-REFUNDABLE. YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO CANCEL WITHOUT PENALTY. THERE WILL BE NO REFUNDS, NO RESCHEDULING, NO EXCEPTIONS.
  • Do I need to bring anything?
Please bring a valid form of government issued identification. We do not need ID for every person in the tour, just for the person whose name is on the reservation as they are the one who will be signing for everyone on our liability waiver. It will also be in your best interest to make sure you dress appropriately for the weather. When riding a Segway, you are in the direct sunlight, other times in the shade, but always feeling a breeze that makes it about 10 degrees cooler no matter what the temperature is outside. So if it's on the colder side, warm gloves and an appropriate coat or jacket for the temperature would be ideal. If you have trouble with heat, a hat with some sort of visor on hotter days could help keep the sun from beating down on your face. No matter what, sneakers are the best bet for your feet. Wearing flip flops is not encouraged.
  • Do you charge for the photos you take on the tour?
No, we do not! We are proud to offer our guests complimentary photos of their tours as an added bonus. We try our best to capture as many photos as we can, but there is no guarantee on the number of photos that you will receive.
  • How many people can ride together?
City regulations state we need to keep a 6:1 ratio of riders to tour guide. We can accommodate to any party size you have, but once your group reaches seven (7) participants or more, and you wish to all ride out together at the same time, then you will be charged a higher group rate. Please visit our Private Events page for more information. If your group of seven (7) or more do not mind getting split up between different times and tour guides and/or be with other participants, then you can definitely just book separately following our regular tour times. That is an alternative we have seen some take in the past. If the spots are available, you can take multiple time slots back to back as long as you understand we are not joining the time slots together. They will still be going out separately, staggered at their normally scheduled time with 6 people or less.
  • What should I wear?
Wear clothes that match the weather and nothing too loose or hanging. We strongly encourage guest to not wear flip flops or high heels! Wear sunscreen, bring a bottle of water, and some sun glasses in the summer. Hats are not recommended since you must wear a helmet. You can bring your own or pick one out of our variety of sizes (small, medium, large and x-large).
  • Should I come before the scheduled time?
There is no need to arrive before the scheduled time of your tour. We have allotted time for check in and training into our schedule. If you want to be a few minutes early, that's fine. But we cannot stress how important it is not to be late. There are most likely going to be other people on your tour who have arrived on time. And there will definitely be other groups after your tour. Once a group shows up late, it creates a cascading effect leaving the rest of the tours for the tour guide on that day to be running late. For example: If you have booked a 2-hour tour scheduled for 9:00AM, you should arrive at 9:00AM. Check-in and training typically runs for half an hour (30 minutes) from 9:00AM until 9:30AM. Then you will spend 2 hours on the tour and be back at 11:30AM.
  • Do you have a Freedom Trail tour?
As we cannot operate our tours directly on the sidewalks, we cannot offer a “Freedom Trail Tour”. However, both our 1 and 2 hour tours ride along side of the trail and also cross it at times. Sites of the Freedom Trail that we see include the Old North Church, Faneuil Hall, Boston Common, Public Garden, New State House, Old South Meeting House and much more depending on the length of the tour you will book.
  • How about cameras and cell phones?
For safety reasons, you are not allowed to use any type of electronic device while on the Segway. No texting, calling or picture taking. So as an added bonus to your tour, our Tour Guides will work hard to take great pictures of you and your group free of charge. These tour photos will be uploaded on our photo server and emailed to you within 5-7 business days.
  • When I make a payment, is my information secure?
At Boston Segway Tours, we understand how important it is to know that your information is safe. We set out to use Square payment processing which is highly secure and incorporated into our reservation system Checkfront. All payments are processed using industry-standard 256-bit SSL encryption and PCI DSS Level 1 compliance. In addition, we have taken the extra step to add an SSL Certificate to our website to ensure that everything you do once you reach our website is handled safely with security.
  • Are there lockers available?
Yes, we have lockers available to use free of charge. Our Segways also has fairly large bags on them that can store typical items such as phones, small purses and hats. In terms of luggages, our front desk can hold them for you at our reception area.
  • I noticed another Segway Tour with a very similar name. Is this Boston Segway Tours?
No, it most certainly is not. It sure is a clever marketing trick to use a name almost identical to ours. But buyer beware, we are the only Segway tour company that is licensed to operate in Boston. So while you think you are booking a tour in Boston using this other company, you are not. You won't be able to see the attractions that everybody comes to Boston to visit. Again, we are the only Segway company with licenses granted to us by the City of Boston and not only are we licensed, but insured. Our Tour Guides are also licensed to operate Segway tours in Boston by the Boston Police Department.
  • If I feel I am not physically fit enough to ride, should I still book a reservation?
If you feel you cannot commit to your reservation, we do not suggest you book a tour. Once a reservation is booked, you are subject to our non-refundable cancellation policy.
