Do you have a Freedom Trail tour? Both our 1 and 2 hour tours ride along side of the trail and cross it at times. Sites of the Freedom Trail that we see in the 1-hour include the Old State House, Boston Massacre, Old North Church, Bunker Hill Monument, USS Constitution Ship, Faneuil Hall, Copp's Hill Burial Ground. Sites of the Freedom Trail that we see in the 2-hour tour include all of those in the 1-hour in addition to Boston Common, King's Chapel, Boston Latin & Benjamin Franklin Statue, Old South Meeting House, New State House, and the Corner Bookstore. However, as we cannot operate our tours directly on the sidewalks, we ride on bike lanes alongside various parts of the Freedom Trail. Unfortunately we don't have official stops at 2 of the 16 Freedom Trail stops - specifically the Park Street Church and Granary Burying Ground due to our path restrictions.

Is there a minimum height and weight requirement? Most riders should be at least 4-ft and 6-inches and weigh at least 100 lbs. to be able to ride a Segway. However, in cases where riders do not meet these criteria, we have the ability to provide an electric kick scooter designed for younger children (9 years and older) in order to allow them to stay with the group and still enjoy the tour.
-
How many people can ride together?Although the vast majority of tours have about 2-6 people in order to ensure a comfortable guide-to-guest ratio, we are certainly able to accommodate group sizes of up to 30 riders - and in those cases, we will schedule additional guides to join the larger group in such instances to ensure a comfortable number of guides are with the larger group. If you would like to discuss a group that is even larger than 30, please give us a call and we can explore a few options to make it happen for your group.
-
Can my child ride on the Segway with me?Unfortunately, no. A Segway is not designed for multiple riders. However, in cases where riders are not at least 4-ft and 6-inches in height and weight less than 100 lbs, we have the ability to provide an electric kick scooter designed for younger children (9 years and older) in order to allow them to stay with the group and still enjoy the tour.

Where are you located? We are located at 199 State Street in Downtown Boston, close to the Faneuil Hall and The New England Aquarium.
-
Where can I park? There is no on-site parking at our location. However, there is pay-parking either by meters on the surrounding streets or in parking garages close by. The closest parking is 200 State Street Garage just across the street from us. The entrance to this garage is on Surface Road. If you decide to take the T, use the Blue Line to the Aquarium T Stop.
-
Is there a restroom available on the premise?Believe it or not, our business location is in a very old building that has never had a bathroom installed. We know this is an inconvenience and would like to apologize in advance. We highly encourage you to use the public bathrooms in surrounding places like Faneuil Hall and Marriott Long Wharf before starting your tour.

What about the weather? We glide rain or shine! Unless the state declares a State of Emergency in the County - specifically in Boston - then we ride! Since this our 9th year running Segway tours in Boston, something we would like to mention is that we've had to watch the weather very closely. One thing we know is that the weather predictions in Boston, being so close to the coast, are wrong more often than they are right. Especially if the chance of precipitation is 50% or less. "Thunderstorms" are mostly unpredictable. Meaning, they are almost always wrong about the timing of a thunderstorm. We have been down this road a thousand times and what we always see happen (unless it's something like 85% chance of showers all day) is that the time they predict rain will fall usually gets pushed back 2-3 hours in the last 24 hours of the expected thunderstorm. Sometimes the rain just disappears from the forecast completely in the final hours leading up to a specific time. We have also seen countless times where the weather prediction is completely wrong and it won't rain at all. With that said, please take this into consideration before reaching out to us about your reservation. We strongly encourage you to take a deeper dive into the information on the weather. Do not blindly trust the "daily" forecast. Take a few extra seconds to look at the "hourly" forecast surrounding your tour time. And most importantly, check what the radar shows you, as that is the most accurate piece of information available showing the actual precipitation, where it's heading, and when.
-
What if I need to cancel my reservation? You can cancel more than 48 hours before the tour for a full refund. Within 48 hours, we can reschedule you subject to availability or issue a gift certificate that will never expire. No-call no-shows forfeit their entire purchase. If you think you might not be able to make your event, please email us at info@segewayinboston.com or call us as soon as possible at 833-273-4929.
-
Do I need to bring anything? Please bring a valid form of government issued identification. We do not need ID for every person in the tour, just for the person whose name is on the reservation as they are the one who will be signing for everyone on our liability waiver. It will also be in your best interest to make sure you dress appropriately for the weather. When riding a Segway, you are in the direct sunlight, other times in the shade, but always feeling a breeze that makes it about 10 degrees cooler no matter what the temperature is outside. So if it's on the colder side, warm gloves and an appropriate coat or jacket for the temperature would be ideal. If you have trouble with heat, a hat with some sort of visor on hotter days could help keep the sun from beating down on your face. No matter what, sneakers are the best bet for your feet. Wearing flip flops is not encouraged.
-
Do you charge for the photos you take on the tour? No, we do not! We are proud to offer our guests complimentary photos of their tours as an added bonus. We try our best to capture as many photos as we can, but there is no guarantee on the number of photos that you will receive.
-
What should I wear?Wear clothes that match the weather and nothing too loose or hanging. We strongly encourage guest to not wear flip flops or high heels! Wear sunscreen, bring a bottle of water, and some sun glasses in the summer. Hats are not recommended since you must wear a helmet. You can bring your own or pick one out of our variety of sizes (small, medium, large and x-large).
-
Should I come before the scheduled time? There is no need to arrive before the scheduled time of your tour. We have allotted time for check in and training into our schedule. If you want to be a few minutes early, that's fine. But we cannot stress how important it is not to be late. There are most likely going to be other people on your tour who have arrived on time. And there will definitely be other groups after your tour. Once a group shows up late, it creates a cascading effect leaving the rest of the tours for the tour guide on that day to be running late. For example: If you have booked a 2-hour tour scheduled for 9:00AM, you should arrive at 9:00AM. Check-in and training typically runs for half an hour (30 minutes) from 9:00AM until 9:30AM. Then you will spend 2 hours on the tour and be back at 11:30AM.
-
How about cameras and cell phones? For safety reasons, you are not allowed to use any type of electronic device while on the Segway. No texting, calling or picture taking. So as an added bonus to your tour, our Tour Guides will work hard to take great pictures of you and your group free of charge. These tour photos will be uploaded on our photo server and emailed to you within 5-7 business days.
-
When I make a payment, is my information secure? At Boston Segway Tours, we understand how important it is to know that your information is safe. We set out to use Stripe which is highly secure and incorporated into our reservation system Fare Harbor. All payments are processed using industry-standard 256-bit SSL encryption and PCI DSS Level 1 compliance. In addition, we have taken the extra step to add an SSL Certificate to our website to ensure that everything you do once you reach our website is handled safely with security.
-
